Kilauea volcano resumes eruptions with new lava fountains

Mount Kilauea on Hawaii’s Big Island has resumed its intermittent eruptions, lighting up the night sky with bright red lava fountains.

The latest activity, which have been captivating residents and visitors for nearly a year, began on December 6 and includes fountains reaching 50 to 100 feet from vents on the north cone.

The eruption remains confined within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, though US Geological Survey scientists continue to monitor heightened seismic activity and lava behavior.

No nearby communities are currently at risk.
