Kiko Casilla 'makes everyone nervous' according to former Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green has issued a blunt assessment of Kiko Casilla ahead of the Premier League tie against Brighton.

The Spaniard endured a woeful performance in last weekend's FA Cup third-round defeat to Crawley Town, making two significant errors.

However, Illan Meslier's absence from the squad means the former Real Madrid goalkeeper will play between the posts once again.

That has already attracted criticism from Leeds supporters and Casilla needs to step up if he is to alleviate the criticism that has orientated around him since his transfer to the club.

A more significant issue, however, is that Green believes Casilla's erratic behaviour in his role leads to nerves throughout the defence.

“His performances suggest they can’t rely on him, he had a tough weekend at Crawley," he told Sky Sports.

"I think he would’ve thought that he wouldn’t be playing again this season. Since his suspension, that’s been hanging over him. It’s his decision making in games, he goes looking for things to do when there’s no needs.

"There’s a temptation, when you are so open, to go and look for things to do as a goalkeeper, and he does that. It makes everyone around him a little bit nervous.”

Leeds have a poor defensive record in the Premier League, with only West Brom conceding more goals this season.
