Kieron Freeman chase takes fresh twist as Nottingham Forest ponder move

Huddersfield Town are unlikely to join Nottingham Forest in the chase for ex-Sheffield United defender Kieron Freeman.

The Daily Mail this week reported Freeman had darted onto Huddersfield's radar as the Terriers look to sign a  right-back following the departure of Danny Simpson.

But Yorkshire Live say that Freeman is unlikely to be joining the club after speaking to sources close to Championship side.

That would leave Forest and Swansea as the two clubs battling it out for the defender which were named in the Daily Mail's story earlier this week.

With Matty Cash looking set to leave the club this summer after a £10m bid from Sheffield United was rejected earlier this week, Forest will be in the hunt for a replacement.

And the Mail claims they will turn to Freeman who started his career at Forest before leaving for Derby County in 2012.

He then switched to Sheffield United in 2015 and played a pivotal role in the club's rise to the Premier League.

In 2016/17 he was a regular start in the Blades team which won League One, scoring 10 goals along the way.

Manager Sabri Lamouchi is currently in Greece where he is talking to owner Evangelos Marinakis about their transfer plans as they look to bounce back from their final day capitulation which saw them miss out on the play-offs.

A striker is also top of Forest's wanted list as they look to take the burden off Lewis Grabban who finished top scorer at the City Ground.

They have been linked with Ivan Toney and Lyle Taylor among others.
