Kieran Trippier pens open letter to Tottenham fans after joining Atletico Madrid

Kieran Trippier has predicted Tottenham will continue to "reach new heights" while thanking the fans following his transfer to Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old became Spurs' first first-team sale of the summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to reshape his squad after last season's run to the Champions League final.

Trippier, whose final appearance for the club was the loss to Liverpool in Madrid, has agreed a three-year deal with the Liga outfit in a deal worth £20m to end a four-year spell with Spurs.

"THANK YOU," he wrote on Instagram, after initially tagging the NBA franchise San Antonio Spurs rather than his former club. "I’ve met some amazing people at [Tottenham] many of whom I now call my friends.

"To the Tottenham fans from around the world – you’ve been amazing. The support you’ve shown me and the team took us to new heights, and with the new stadium I have no doubt that the team and fans have many exciting times ahead!

"Wish everyone at the club nothing but the best."

Trippier's career highlight came 12 months ago when he became only the third Englishman to score in a World Cup semi-final when bending in a long-range free kick against Croatia.

He struggled for form last season and was allowed to move abroad with the likes of Juan Foyth and Kyle Walker-Peters expected to step up for the 2019/20 season.
