Kieran Trippier on the one thing he would do differently in his final season at Tottenham

Former Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier has admitted he was 'a bit selfish' during his last season at Spurs.

The England international struggled for form after starring in England's World Cup campaign in the summer of 2018, and left the Tottenham Hotspur stadium just a year later, moving to Spain to join Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old was part of the squad that made it to the Champions League final where they lost 2-0 to Liverpool a game in which Trippier played the full 90 minutes.

Tripper also struggled with injuries throughout the season, playing through the pain barrier to make appearances in big games.

"It was difficult, you know you're not playing well and you're still getting picked. You're struggling with injuries, which I was probably from October," Tripper told BBC Sport.

"But obviously to play in big games, in Champions League games getting to the final, you want to play in the big games, so maybe I was a bit selfish at times where I should have just took a step back and thought of the team more.

"I was playing through pain and obviously I didn't have the best of seasons I have openly admitted about that but I'm happy I went through a difficult time like that, because if it happens again I know how to control it.

"I'm at the perfect place now which I think it was the right time for me to move on."

Trippier has played 22 times for Atletico since joining the Spanish side in the summer, but has missed the last three league matches with a groin strain.
