Kieran Trippier on Newcastle's 'quality' new arrivals as Magpies return for pre-season

Kieran Trippier has praised Newcastle United for bringing in 'quality' in the form of Sven Botman and Nick Pope this summer. The Magpies have so far signed three players this summer, after the permanent arrival of Matt Targett and the two aforementioned players.

The second wave of Eddie Howe's squad returned to training after being granted extended leave following their international call-ups. Speaking to nufc.com, Trippier said: "It's always good to be back, I've had a nice rest with my family but now it's time to work. It's been good to see everyone today and it was a good first session.

"The first session is always tricky with the tests that we have to do but it's always good to get back to see the boys and to start to work again."

"It's always good to add that extra quality," he added. "I know Popey very well from time with my country, he's an excellent keeper and Sven is a top quality centre-half. The lads have been brilliant with them on their first day, but like I said before it's always good to bring that quality in to help us push forward as a club."

Following the turn of the year, Newcastle displayed form that would have placed them in contention for Europe. Trippier's arrival played a huge part in transforming the Magpies fortunes and knows they must pick up where they left off.

He said: "It's always important. Last season we finished very strongly but this is a new season now, we know our aims and where we want to be as a club and as players and adding quality like Sven and Popey is always going to help us in the next season. We know it's going to be difficult but we all believe in ourselves as a team and as a club we can Push forward. Obviously we need to follow on with how we finished last year, but it's a new season and we know how challenging the Premier League is, especially the quality that is arriving in this league now.

"We're bringing good additions into the team, we've got a good team anyway and a good manager so we just need to believe in ourselves and we know how far we can go."

Newcastle will travel to Austria and Portugal for some pre-season fixtures before returning to St. James' Park. Pre-season will give Eddie Howe more of opportunity to get his ideas across to the squad and Trippier has praised the Magpies head coach since his arrival.

He said: "I think the style of play, the intensity that the team train and obviously the manager has brought a clear identity of how he wants to play and I think he's shown that from his point of view since he's arrived here. It's always good when you've travel away as a team. With new signings, like we mentioned before, it's always good for them to be with us every moment of the day to get to know us, to get to know them and to make them gel easier into the group because it's not easy coming into a new group, but we've got a fantastic set of lads here who'll welcome them with open arms."
