Kieran Trippier hails Tottenham’s 'frightening' Tanguy Ndombele and 'unbelievable' Jose Mourinho

Former Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier has revealed he's heard record signing Tanguy Ndombele is "frightening", while also heaping praise on Jose Mourinho.

The Frenchman arrived at Tottenham in a £63million deal last summer, expected to be the long-term successor of previous midfield general Mousa Dembele.

Ndombele has struggled for form and fitness throughout his first season, however, particularly under Jose Mourinho. The 23-year-old, despite catching the eye of the manager in training, is yet to feature in Tottenham's two games following football's restart.

Trippier played his last game for Tottenham in their Champions League final defeat to Liverpool last year, subsequently sealing a £20m transfer to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

But while he's moved on from the club, the Englishman is clearly still in the know at his former club.

"I've not played with [Ndombele] but I've seen him play," Trippier said on The Beautiful Game podcast. "From what I hear he's unbelievable, and supposedly he's frightening."

Trippier also commented on what has been a difficult season for Tottenham as a whole. The north London club sit in seventh place, nine points off Chelsea in fourth.

The 29-year-old believes his former side are far better than they've shown, also insisting they appointed the right man for the job in Mourinho.

"It's a difficult period at the moment for them because with the team they've got they don't deserve to be where they are," he said.

"They've missed H [Harry Kane] for so long and he's a natural goalscorer for them, Sonny with the military and the Olympics.

"They've got a fantastic team and it's about challenges. You will go through periods like this but they will come out the other end for sure. Make no mistake about that as they have a fantastic, unbelievable manager."

He added: "You look on paper and they have a quality team. I feel like they've brought the right manager in as he's a natural winner."
