Kieran Tierney transfer message sent by Celtic boss Neil Lennon

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has admitted there is a strong chance Kieran Tierney will leave the club to join Arsenal before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.

Reports have suggested the two clubs have agreed a Scottish transfer record fee of £25m for the player, and that he will now travel to London to discuss personal terms.

Following Celtic's 1-1 draw with Cluj in Champions League qualifying Lennon appeared to accept defeat in his battle to try to keep Tierney.

Speaking to BBC Sport the Celtic boss said: "I don't know anything. I've said the last few days it wouldn't surprise me [if Arsenal came back in for the player].

"If he goes, he goes with everyone's best wishes. He's an outstanding talent and a great kid."

Arsenal have been looking to strengthen their defence all summer, and although they completed a deal for William Saliba, the French centre-back will return to Saint-Etienne on loan next season.

Therefore the capture of Tierney would come as a big boost to Gunners manager Unai Emery, with the versatile full-back also potentially able to play in the middle of the defence.

If he does leave Tierney will be remembered fondly by those at Parkhead. He came through the academy at the club and made his senior debut in 2015.

Since then he has been an ever-present, making 170 appearances in total and helping Celtic to four SPL titles, two Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups.

He would become Arsenal's fifth signing of the summer, along with young forward Gabriel Martinelli, defender Saliba, central midfielder Dani Ceballos on loan and winger Nicolas Pepe.

It could prove to be a busy deadline day for Arsenal, as they are still reportedly looking to tie up an £8m deal to sign Chelsea's David Luiz and send out forward Eddie Nketiah on loan.
