Kieran Tierney to go under the knife as Arsenal 'season over' ahead of Scotland playoff fitness race

Scotland face a major doubt over Kieran Tierney 's fitness with the Arsenal star reportedly requiring surgery on a knee injury.

Tierney missed the Gunners' shock 3-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace, one that allowed rivals Tottenham to keep their spot in the Champions League places ahead of them.

The Athletic report that the former Celtic full-back will now miss the remainder of the campaign and is a major doubt for Scotland's crucial World Cup playoff.

The report states that Tierney will have surgery later this week on his knee injury and is facing several months out.

The note that there are "doubts over whether he will recover in time" for the World Cup play-off against Ukraine in June.

Ahead of the defeat at Selhurst Park, Arteta told Sky Sports: "He came back from international duty and felt something wrong in his knee.

"There is some damage there. We will hopefully know more on Tuesday but it isn't looking good."

The 25-year-old scored his first international goal for Scotland against Poland in his side's friendly where he played the full 90 minutes at Hampden.

However, he returned to the English Premier League giants with the injury.
