Competition for the left-back slot at Arsenal could increase before transfer deadline day.
What might have got lost amid Mikel Arteta's appointment as head coach last month was the fact that he had to prepare for games against Bournemouth and Chelsea without a recognised left-back.
Kieran Tierney suffered a dislocated shoulder in the 3-1 win over West Ham United and he was soon joined on the sidelines by Sead Kolasniac which meant Bukayo Saka was played out of position over the festive period.
The Bosnia international did make a surprise return for the New Year's Day win over Manchester United, but has been ruled out of Saturday's clash against Sheffield United with a thigh strain.
It's unclear how long Kolasinac will be out of action for, but it's prompted Arteta to express his concern at a lack of full-backs at his disposal.
"We are already playing with full-backs that are not full-backs" he told reporters. "They are wingers or central midfielders and could we afford to lose full-backs? No, but we don't have any full-backs."
However, reinforcements could soon be on the way in the shape of Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa.
The 27-year-old is out of contract in the French capital at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer in the summer if he doesn't sign a new deal between now and June 30.
But according to The Athletic, Arsenal are keen to sign Kurzawa this month and football.london can confirm that talks have indeed taken place.
The initial rumour came to light not too long after Arsenal had posted a clip of Tierney doing some gym work just over a month removed from undergoing shoulder surgery.
In the 20-second video uploaded to the club's official Twitter account, the £25m summer signing from Celtic is no longer in a sling and can be seen moving around quite freely.
Whilst it's not a return to full training for the Scotsman, Gunners fans will be encouraged to him working towards his comeback.
There's no specific return date set in stone for Tierney, but has been an update regarding his recovery ahead of the Premier League clash against Sheffield United.
"Successful surgery completed," a statement reads on Arsenal.com. "Rehabilitation process expected to take around three months, aiming to return to full training in March."
The Gunners could have as many as eight games across three different competitions in March and Tierney's availability will certainly serve as a boost to Arteta.
