Kieran Tierney starts for Arsenal against Standard Liege in Europa League clash

Kieran Tierney starts for Arsenal in their Europa League clash against Standard Liege just a day after being left out of the Scotland squad at the Gunners' request.

Unai Emery has named the left-back in the line-up as the Londoners host the Belgian side at the Emirates.

Tierney was brilliant on his debut against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup as he received a standing ovation for his 77-minute display.

There were calls for the 22-year-old to make his Premier League bow against Manchester United on Monday night but he was omitted from the squad as continues to get up to full speed from his recent groin injury.

However, he has returned to the side for the visit of Liege as Arsenal look to build on their impressive 3-0 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday one.

Tierney was set to be named in Steve Clarke's Scotland squad on Tuesday for their Euro 2020 double header against Russia and San Marino next week. But after talks with Arsenal medics, he was left out as a precaution .

Tierney joined the London side from Celtic in the summer for a record £25million.
