Kieran Tierney sent Arsenal transfer message by former Celtic star Virgil Van Dijk

Virgil Van Dijk insists Kieran Tierney has all the tools to be a smash hit at Arsenal.

But the Dutch superstar warned he’ll need to raise his game if he lands a dream move to the Gunners.

The Premier League club are expected to make a third bid after their latest offer of £25million, which included a payment structure and potential add-ons, failed to meet Celtic's valuation

Emery admitted he’s in the market for a full-back after suffering a weekend friendly loss to Lyon and Liverpool hero van Dijk is adamant Tierney would be the answer after recalling the 22-year-old made his debut alongside the former Celt at Dens Park back in 2015.

He said: “It is not an easy step to make and you have to play well to do it. But he has the qualities.

“Kieran made his debut against Dundee when I was at Celtic. I scored a free-kick up there and then he came on and helped us get the win.”

Van Dijk was back in Scotland on Sunday as Liverpool went down 3-0 to Napoli at sold-out Murrayfield and the 28-year-old and admits he had no idea he was being watched by old Hoops team-mate Scott Brown.

He said: “I didn’t realise Scott Brown was there. He should have texted me! I don’t think he has my number! He’s a great guy.

“I enjoyed it a lot. It is always great to be back in Scotland. The last time I was here it was with my national team when we played Scotland at Pittodrie. It has been a while. It has always been good to play here.”
