Kieran Tierney's first words after signing new long-term contract with Arsenal

Kieran Tierney has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, as first revealed by football.london .

The 24-year-old made 27 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season, and was one of the positives as Mikel Arteta's side finished eighth in the league.

And he was a happy man to sign the deal which football.london understands is a five-year extension.

Tierney told the club website: "It feels amazing, firstly when the manager came to me and said he wanted me to extend my deal, because they were happy since I came was amazing for me to hear.

"I had a hard first season with injuries, but last season it really picked up for me and the cluib have been briliant with me and I'm more than happy to extend it. I'm delighted.

“The vision of the club, where it wants to go, the expectation of the club, it’s where I want to be in football, at the top. There’s no doubt about it, we’re not where we want to be right now, but we’re going in the right direction.

"The way the club is ran on the inside, it’s amazing, I love all the staff, I love all the players, I love the manager, working with him is an absolute joy. Being happy in life, it speaks for a lot, and I’m happy just now, so I’m more than happy to think about my future."

Tierney also reserved some special praise for his Arsenal teammates and fans.

"Those two players you’ve mentioned there (Saka and Smith Rowe), they’re world-class and they will be for years to come," he said.

"At times, they carried the team this season, when we needed a goal or an assist, they popped up, they’re so young. For players so young, it’s amazing to have that in the team and with the experience as well. We’re only going to get better and stronger as well."

He added: "To be honest, I was surprised straight away because the love I had at Celtic, I thought it couldn’t be replicated anywhere, but the love I had from day one, the Arsenal fans have showed me so much love.

"They’ve been patient with me through injuries, at times where it’s not going well, they’ve stuck with me, even messages on social media, seeing people on the street. I just feel it, even when you put a photo up and you see the comments, it’s just brilliant. It gives you confidence, I can’t wait for fans to be back in the stadium. I’m more established as a player now."

football.london understands that Arsenal are also in the market for a back-up left-back this summer, with the club keen on signing a younger profile of player.

Ryan Bertrand was initially targeted but is close to joining Leicester, while interest for Josh Doig hasn't turned into an approach as of yet.
