Kieran Tierney's elite mentality as Celtic teammate has Arsenal profiting from 'ridiculous' talent

A former youth team-mate of Kieran Tierney insists he knew the Arsenal star was destined for the top from the first time he saw him.

Goalkeeper Colin McCabe never made it at Celtic but spent four years in the youth team before returning to the Republic of Ireland with Bohemians and then Shelbourne.

But from his first trial with Celtic, he knew Tierney was going to go far because of the way he handled himself even at a young age.

The left back made his first team debut as a 17-year-old before being a huge part of the squad under Brendan Rodgers and earning a £25million move to Arsenal.

A tough start to life in North London quickly turned into him being a vital player for ex- Rangers midfielder Mikel Arteta and he ended the season with an FA Cup winner's medal around his neck.

And McCabe - who is an Arsenal fan - is delighted Tierney is there because he's certain he can go as far as he wants.

He told the Irish Sun: “The first time I saw him was the Hibernia Cup in Dublin.

"I was on trial with Celtic and you could see he had something about him.

“His attitude and dedication were spot on and he had ridiculous talent to go with it.

"He always had a smile on his face and was always willing to do the extra bit. Arsenal is my club so I’m happy for him.”
