Kieran Tierney's Arsenal absence explained as defender proves his Gunners commitment

Kieran Tierney could only make the bench for Arsenal today in their Premier League clash with Norwich City.

Freddie Ljungberg took charge of the Gunners for the first time at Carrow Road this afternoon as caretaker manager after Unai Emery was sacked earlier this week.

The Swede made four changes to the starting line-up against the Canaries, with Tierney being one of the players that were dropped, with former Hoops midfielder Ljungberg opting for Sead Kolasinic at left-back.

The Scotland international had reportedly picked up a knock in training yesterday and wasn't fully fit to be in the starting line-up to face Norwich, but battled through the pain barrier to make the subs bench.

Tierney had started last weekend against Southampton and again against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thurday.

The 22-year-old was only brought into the North London club this summer by Emery, with the £25million signing paying tribute to his former boss earlier this week after he was sacked.

He said on Instagram with a picture of the two: "Thank you and good luck."

The Scotland international didn't see much playing time under Emery as he recovered from a groin injury in the early stages of the season.

Tierney's former manager and now Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has been linked with the vacant position.
