Kieran Tierney ready for 'more important club' than Celtic claims former Scotland boss Alex McLeish

Alex McLeish has claimed Celtic star Kieran Tierney is ready to join 'a more important club than Celtic."

The former Scotland and Rangers manager worked with the Hoops star during his ill-fated spell as Scotland boss but is backing the Hoops to make the next step in his career.

McLeish experimented with Tierney in a variety of positions as national team boss but reckons teams will be landing a ready-made left-back star.

Arsenal have had a £15million bid booted out but are expected to come again. Napoli are also keen on the 22-year-old and are poised to make their move.

Celtic value their star man at £25million and won't be rushed into selling one of the best Scottish players in a generation. Left-back Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo is in Glasgow as he gets set to join the Hoops.

McLeish, speaking to Italian media, has given Tierney the big sell and reckons the Serie A giants should jump at the chance to land him.

He told Radio Marte: “Tierney is ready for the big jump and to go to a more important club than Celtic.

Scotland manager Alex McLeish shows his frustration as his side struggle to rack up the goals against minnows San Marino (SNS Group)

“When his team played Barcelona, Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, he always stood out, and that makes him ready.

“He’s got attacking qualities, but is also a great defender.

“He’s very young and while he had a few injuries, there’s no particular problems.

“He’s really quick and not only a player who knows how to defender. He’s got stamina, can run many kilometres without stopping.

“We’re talking about a real athlete. Ancelotti has the right to get the best out of Tierney’s potential, and Napoli would be a great step for him.”
