Kieran Tierney provides injury update from hospital bed after dislocating shoulder

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has revealed that the operation on his shoulder has been a success.

Full-back Tierney was ruled out until the New Year after he landed awkwardly on his right shoulder during the Gunners' victory over West Ham last Monday.

The Scotland international went under the knife on Tuesday and sent a message on Instagram that the surgery had been a success.

He wrote from his hospital bed: "Op done ✅

"Soup terrible ✅

"Thank you as always for the lovely messages. Helping me a lot ❤️️."

The message was accompanied with Tierney lying in a hospital bed, with a half eaten bowl of soup and a packet of chocolate biscuits.

The injury is the second that Tierney has had to recover from as an Arsenal player - having arrived from Celtic in the summer.

He missed the opening month of the season with a hernia problem and is now set to sit out for a further three months.

Meanwhile, Martin Keown has admitted Arsenal had to act following their defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Gunners were beaten 3-0 at the Emirates to continue their disappointing start to the season - with Freddie Ljungberg still in caretaker charge.

Keown said: "I wonder how glaring Sunday was for the decision-makers of the club. It was always going to be difficult against City but the gulf between the two sides, especially in the first half, was alarming.

"Sunday's defeat may have added some urgency in the search for a new boss. Arsenal's next game is away at Everton on Saturday and every day is valuable.

"If confirmed as their new head coach, Arteta will want to get to work immediately. Let's not forget the January transfer window is fast approaching, too. There is big work to be done at that club over the coming weeks."
