Kieran Tierney pictured in an Arsenal kit for first time as Premier League giants announce signing

Arsenal have confirmed the capture of Kieran Tierney in a deadline busting five-year deal from Celtic.

The Hoops hero has sealed his switch to the Gunners making him the most expensive Scottish player in history.

Unai Emery was desperate to land the Scotland international after the Spaniard pinpointed the left-back is a key signing target.

But Arsenal had to bide their time after having two bids turfed out for Tierney before they made a breakthrough on Wednesday evening.

Tierney passed his medical on Thursday and now the Premier League big boys have confirmed the capture of the Celtic icon on a long-term contract with just 10 minutes to go in the English transfer window.

The Scotland international will wear the number three shirt at the Emirates.

Arsenal have been busy ahead of the close of the window and are also on the verge of signing David Luiz in a £8m deal from Chelsea.

But Tierney, who has been a key signing target for the North Londoners, admits he cannot wait to get started at the Emirates after putting pen to paper on an eye-popping deal believed to be worth more than £70,000 a week.

Emery said: “We’re delighted Kieran is joining us.

"He’s a very talented player who will continue to improve. He increases our options defensively and I look forward to him joining our group.”

Tierney is recovering from a double hernia operation after missing the end to the Hoops' treble Treble winning season with pelvis problems.

He hasn't featured for the Hoops at all this season but Neil Lennon said earlier this week that the player was only a week away from being fit.
