Kieran Tierney on the Steve Clarke Scotland meeting that changed everything as Arsenal defender talks up 'vision'

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney reveals that a meeting with Steve Clarke in London was key to his return to the national team.

The left-back hasn't played for Scotland since a 2-1 Nations League defeat in October 2018.

Tierney struggled with a hip injury in his final season at Celtic, while surgery and a shoulder problem initially held him back at Arsenal.

The defender never left Clarke 's thoughts though, and he revealed that the Scotland boss sought him out for a meeting in London to sell him a vision for the national team.

Tierney told Sky Sports News: "I'm looking forward to working with the manager.

"I met with him in London a few months ago, he told me his plan and his vision for the team.

"I think everyone in the squad agrees with his vision and we just need to believe.

"I was obviously going through a tough time myself, I was injured and had just come back.

"There was no certainty I would play with Scotland or Arsenal.

"So just to hear that he does have plans for me here was good."
