Arsenal star Kieran Tierney has been called up for Scotland’s World Cup qualifying double-header – despite being injured.
The left-back has been missing from the resurgent Premier League side’s last three matches due to a bruised ankle suffered in training ahead of the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa.
But Scotland national team coach Steve Clarke is believed to have been in close contact with Emirates boss Mikel Arteta and has given the go-ahead to include him in his squad for the next two games.
Clarke’s side face Moldova a week on Friday, followed by Denmark three days later – with a win in either match enough to guarantee Scotland a place in the playoffs.
When Arteta last spoke of Tierney – after the 2-0 win against Leicester City on Saturday – the Spaniard was unable to set a return date for the Arsenal left-back.
Arteta said: "He didn't train with the team yesterday. He wasn't feeling good, is still in pain and was struggling with his running.
"We need to help him as much as possible, get him back but I don't know when that will be."
But clearly Tierney has a chance of featuring in at least one of his country’s games in what is also a boost for Arsenal.
