Kieran Tierney left gutted as Arsenal 'seek further advice' on star's isolation order

Arsenal star Kieran Tierney admits he's gutted by the Covid-19 blow decimating the Scotland squad.

The left-back and team-mate Ryan Christie have been forced into self-isolation following Stuart Armstrong's positive test.

The trio will now miss the monumental Euro 2020 play off against Israel on Thursday night.

Tierney also faces a domestic absence when the Gunners return to action against Manchester City on October 17 - but the club are set to "seek further advice" on the decision to isolate him.

The 23-year-old - who tested negative - expressed his disappointment in an Arsenal statement released on Wednesday evening.

"I'm so disappointed and frustrated to be in this situation," Tierney said.

"I have adhered to all regulations and made sure I was socially distancing from my team mates in the hotel. I've also tested negative.

"I know Arsenal and the SFA are now in discussions with the Scottish authorities to gain a further understanding."

The Gunners revealed contact with the Lothian Health Protection team, who advised the club of Tierney's need to isolate.

The London club also hinted they could challenge the decision and have requested more information.

A statement said: "The Scottish FA have today announced that Southampton player Stuart Armstrong has returned a positive test for COVID-19 while on international duty with the Scotland men's national team.

"Within the announcement, the SFA confirmed that all other members of the squad have returned negative results.

"However, the Lothian Health Protection Team in Scotland have identified two players and two members of the backroom staff as 'close contacts'. As a consequence, our defender Kieran Tierney and Celtic player Ryan Christie - along with one physiotherapist and one masseur - have been advised they will require to self-isolate for 14 days as of yesterday (Tuesday, October 8).

"Our medical team have confirmed that Kieran was socially distant at all times from the player who tested positive and has broken no rules regarding COVID-19 protocols. We are currently seeking further advice and clarification of the details."

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has since been dealt a further blow as Scott McKenna, Liam Palmer and Oliver Burke were struck down by injury.

The three players will miss Thursday's clash plus Nations League fixtures against the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
