Kieran Tierney highlights: Why Arsenal want £25m man from Celtic

Arsenal are closing to completing a £25 million deal to sign Kieran Tierney from Celtic.

The Gunners had a number of bids rejected for the 22-year-old earlier in the window but Standard Sport understands the two clubs reached an agreement after the north London side offered to pay the bulk of the fee up front.

Tierney, predominantly a left-back but could operate as a left-sided centre-back, will sign a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium and is likely to follow Chelsea defender David Luiz to north London.

The Scotland international played an instrumental part in Celtic's domestic double last season, making 40 appearances and scoring one goal.

With Arsenal set to complete both deals before Thursday's 5pm deadline, Tierney will become Unai Emery's fifth signing of the transfer window.

Ivory Coast star Nicolas Pepe arrived in a club-record £72 million deal from Lille in July to follow Dani Ceballos joining on loan from Real Madrid.

Young Brazilian striker Gabriel Martinelli arrived earlier in the summer transfer window.
