Kieran Tierney has already delivered his verdict on Euro 2020 with Arsenal star to avoid ban

Arsenal players may no longer face the threat of being banned from representing their respective nations at this summer's European Championships.

Euro 2020 has already been pushed back a year due to the coronavirus pandemic that affected the footballing world, but there was a danger that the likes of Bernd Leno, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka will miss the tournament.

This is because UEFA president Alexander Ceferin has promised to punish any club participating in the proposed 'The Super League' breakaway competition.

As Arsenal are one of the 12 founding members, it means their players are at risk of being hit with a potential punishment from UEFA which sees them "banned from the World Cup and Euros".

"I cannot stress more strongly how everyone is united against these disgraceful, self-serving proposals, fuelled by greed above all else," Ceferin said on Monday. "We are all united against this nonsense of a project.

"Cynical plan, completely against what football should be. We cannot and will not allow that to change.

"Players who will play in the teams that might play in the closed league will be banned from the World Cup and Euros.

"We urge everyone to stand tall with us as we do everything in our power to ensure this never ends up in fruition."

This potential punishment would certainly be a disaster for every player harbouring hopes of being called up for Euro 2020 and Gunners defender Kieran Tierney is no different.

Last November, Scotland qualified for their first major tournament in 22 years after beating Serbia on penalties to secure a place at Euro 2020.

And Tierney couldn't hide his delight at getting the chance to represent his county on the big stage this summer.

"It was unbelievable, big (David) Marshall, national hero,” said a jubilant Tierney. "I’m lost for words. Everyone is buzzing.

"We’ve been through so much criticism as a team for years and years. To concede late on and still show character to go through and win on penalties again is amazing.

"The first half I thought we were excellent.

"But it’s the Scottish way to put people through it, everybody must have been a bag of nerves. But we did deserve it and it shows how far we’ve come."

Reports have since emerged that the Super League idea is in danger of collapsing, meaning Tierney will be free to take part in Euro 2020 - provided he's fully fit.
