Kieran Tierney 'fanatic' talks Celtic transfer return as Billy Gilmour handed Man City class billing

Pat Nevin has handed Billy Gilmour the backing to star for MAN CITY as he admitted to being a Kieran Tierney 'fanatic'.

The Arsenal defender looks set for a summer exit from North London after falling down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta last season. Most of his match minutes came from the bench with English Premier League duo Newcastle and Aston Villa linked with a swoop. Celtic have also been mentioned in a report as a potential destination and Nevin reckons the left back is too good not to be playing week in, week out.

He admits he could end up back at the Hoops but believes he can play at a high level down south or abroad. He told OLBG: "I’m a Kieran Tierney fanatic. I think he is such a good player, who can play at left-back, center-back and wing-back. He’s too good not to be playing every week, particularly after seeing how well he plays for Scotland. He could end up back at Celtic, but I think he could play at a high level in England or abroad."

Like Tierney, Nevin is a massive fan of Gilmour who he labelled 'world-class'

He still questions Chelsea's decision to sell the midfielder but knows he will have a good career at Brighton. Breaking into the Seagulls' starting team will not only benefit the player but the Scotland national team. And Nevin reckons he wouldn't look out of place at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

He added: "I have said the same about Billy Gilmour before. I was thinking when Chelsea sold him, ‘what are you doing?’. Gilmour is a world-class footballer.

"He could sit in the Man City midfield and be fine because he is good enough for them. I think Gilmour will go on to have a good career at Brighton though, it is a good place for him."
