Kieran Tierney faces Arsenal upheaval as Unai Emery is sacked and Freddie Ljungberg steps in

Arsenal have sacked manager Unai Emery, just months into Kieran Tierney 's career in the Premier League.

The former Celtic left-back was signed in the summer but had to wait to break into the first team after having surgery on a hip problem.

Just as the Scotland international has begun to stake his claim the Gunners have sacked their manager, following the home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

A statement confirmed: "We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Unai Emery and his coaching team.

"The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required.

"We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward.

"The search for a new head coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete."

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri are likely to be in the frame to replace him, along with the likes of Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira.

Tierney played 90 minutes in both of Emery's final two games, including last night's Europa League loss at the Emirates.
