Kieran Tierney explains why Arsenal transfer caused him "sleepless nights"

Kieran Tierney has admitted he had "sleepless nights" in the build-up to his move to Arsenal.

The left-back was signed from Celtic for £25million last summer but arrived at the Emirates Stadium carrying an injury.

Tierney showed glimpses of form in the Europa League and Carabao Cup but suffered a dislocated shoulder in December after making only five Premier League appearances.

However, the 22-year-old Scotland international is now fit again and looking forward to getting back on the pitch with the Gunners.

And, reflecting on his move, Tierney admits it wasn't a straightforward decision to leave Celtic - but doesn't have any regrets.

He told Sky Sports : “I had sleepless nights. It was a hard decision. I knew how big Arsenal were. They are a massive club in a massive league.

“It was obviously a great offer, but I still had sleepless nights thinking, ‘What’s the best thing to do here?’. It went on for ages.

“The first bid came in and I then signed on deadline day. At the same time, I was just coming back from my injury.

“I was like, ‘Don’t even focus on what’s going to happen, just work hard and get fit, everything happens for a reason’.

“Arsenal are a massive, massive club and when I came I realised that.”

Last week, Mikel Arteta backed Tierney to make a big impression with Arsenal when the season resumes.

"It’s a shame [about his injury] but always it’s part of his development," Arteta told Ian Wright on YouTube.

"In your career you go through these moments. I challenge him to say ‘Kieran how are you going to react to that?'

"You cannot feel sorry for yourself, the level of pressure now is a bit higher but you have to deal with it.

"You are playing with a top club, with expectations, deal with it! You have everything to be successful here, you have the best possible attitude that I know from a player go and enjoy it."
