Kieran Tierney explains touching Scotland shin pad tribute to his dog after England draw

Kieran Tierney has explained his touching shin pad tribute to his dog following Scotland ’s 0-0 draw against England.

The former Celtic star held up his shin guards as he took the acclaim of the travelling Tartan Army following the Euro 2020 Group D draw at Wembley on Friday.

The pads featured a picture of Tierney’s dog, who sadly passed away last week which made for an emotional couple of days for Tierney and his family ahead of the clash with the Auld Enemy.

He explained: “His name’s Boston...it was sad. He was two years old and he died suddenly a few days ago. It was a sad moment for me and my family. My mum was a wee bit emotional and they still will be for a while.

“People who have dogs know how much family members they are to us, so that was hard.

“I’ll wear them for the whole tournament now.

“They are just something special, just a wee reminder, a wee keepsake for me. It was nice to be able to do that and for my family to see it as well.”

Tierney missed Scotland’s tournament opener against the Czech Republic as injury forced him to watch from the sidelines as the hosts slipped to a 2-0 defeat.

But he returned to his role on the left of a back three against England as he inspired Scotland to a vital clean sheet in London.

And he’ll hope he can don his shin pads for more than one more game.

Scotland must beat Croatia at Hampden tomorrow night if they are to go through as one of the best third placed teams.
