Kieran Tierney earns Arsenal captaincy shout from Chris Sutton as former Celtic defender wins over more fans

Chris Sutton reckons Kieran Tierney 's commitment to the cause means it's no surprise he is being mooted for the Arsenal captaincy by fans and pundits alike.

Scotland defender Tierney has been one of Mikel Arteta's key players at Arsenal this season despite struggling with injury earlier in the campaign.

He started against Norwich on Boxing Day and popped up with a wonderful run and finish in a 5-0 rout.

The Gunners are flying with four league wins in a row reinstating their Champions League credentials and that's despite the sideshow of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being stripped of the captaincy.

But while Granit Xhaka and Alex Lacazette look the likely candidates to replace him, there are a section of Arsenal fans who want Tierney to lead the squad.

The former Celtic man is known for his passionate leadership and he was brought up by Gunners fan Daniel on Sutton's BBC Radio 5 Live show.

And Sutton, though admitting his Celtic bias, reckons Tierney has it all - even if he isn't yet the "finished article".

Sutton said: "I've always followed him closely because of his time up at Celtic, getting into the team at a young age.

"The thing I like about Tierney, I don't think he's the finished article yet, but he is so, so committed in every game.

"That's why a lot of Arsenal fans would give him the captaincy. Robbie (Savage) said the same this evening, and you agree with him, Daniel.

"That is because of that. It is fair to say that Arsenal have lacked leaders over the years and that's one of the issues Mikel Arteta has had to deal with."
