Kieran Tierney due for Arsenal medical as Gunners eye two deadline day transfers

Kieran Tierney will undergo his medical at Arsenal in the coming hours with the Gunners expecting to make two additions to Unai Emery's defence on transfer deadline day.

As football.london reported earlier today, Arsenal returned to Celtic with a third bid for the Scotland international, finally reaching a breakthrough on a £25million deal.

Tierney must still complete his medical at London Colney before his move to the Arsenal is finalised but his signing is expected to be confirmed by the Gunners before the 5pm closure of the transfer window. He is expected to sign a five-year contract.

Arsenal had seen two bids for Tierney rejected earlier in the transfer window and ultimately Celtic stood firm over their price tag, which will represent the record fee received by a Scottish club.

Tierney played no part in Celtic's 1-1 draw with CFR Cluj in the Champions League third qualifying round and reports in Scotland claim he is already on his way to London.

Arsenal do not intend for him to be the only addition in the summer window and are chasing a centre defender. After their interest cooled in Dayot Upamecano and Daniele Rugani football.london understands the north London side are now chasing Chelsea centre-back David Luiz.

The 32-year-old missed training at Chelsea on Wednesday and has slipped down Frank Lampard's pecking order behind Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma.

Luiz was previously the subject of interest from Arsenal in January 2018 and would offer a more affordable, short-term solution to a problem position for Unai Emery. It has been reported that the Brazilian international could be available for as little as £8m.

Arsenal could also allow Alex Iwobi to depart on deadline day but Everton will need to improve on the £30m offer for the Nigerian international that was rejected by the Gunners earlier today. The Toffees are prepared to make a further bid for the 23-year-old.
