Kieran Tierney delivers emphatic Arsenal fitness message as defender steps up comeback bid

Kieran Tierney has delivered a two-word statement of intent as the Arsenal defender stepped up his fitness bid after returning to training.

The 22-year-old is recovering from double hernia surgery but shared a positive update on Thursday as he took to Twitter to address his new club by saying: "Working hard."

Tierney joined the Premier League big boys in a £25m deadline deal from Celtic and is hoping to be back on the pitch soon.

Unai Emery 's side started the season with a win against Newcastle and the left-back joined his team-mates as they prepared for their clash with Burnley on Saturday.

That game at the Emirates will come too soon for Tierney but the signs are positive with mouthwatering tussles against Liverpool and Tottenham looming.

But Arsenal had earlier set a potential return date for October.

And Tierney's comeback bid comes after Jose Mourinho gave the Scotland international the big sell during punditry duty at the weekend.

The Special One said: "Tierney is like a young Nacho Monreal.

"He is the same kind of profile. He's reliable, looks a good character, looks a great personality.

He looks a little like someone from a previous generation in some aspects.

"He has a humble way of behaving and I like his profile."
