Kieran Tierney Celtic transfer return 'considered'

Kieran Tierney would consider a sensational return to Celtic, it has been reported.

The Scottish Sun claims that Tierney won't close the door on going back to his boyhood club, especially with Brendan Rodgers back at Parkhead.

They state that the Arsenal defender will spend the close season weighing up his future.

It comes after the Scotland international endured a hugely frustrating season last term.

He was limited to just a handful of Premier League starts for the Gunners under Mikel Arteta, with the vast majority of his 36 appearances in all competitions coming from the bench.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in the left-back, as his future appears to be away from The Emirates.

But now, Tierney has been linked with what would be a shock return to the Hoops at this stage in his career.

KT left the club in 2019 for a Scottish record £25m and currently earns £120,000-a-week on a contract until 2026.

It was his superb form, mainly working under Rodgers, which earned him a dream move to the EPL.

And this report states that a season-long loan would be a possibility open to all parties. This would require a substantial loan fee and a 'significant compromise' over wages.

Rodgers has seemingly been handed a huge £30million transfer budget for his second spell in charge of the Hoops.

And a move for the left-back would signal a big statement of intent, as he aims to maintain Celtic's dominance in Scotland.

Newcastle are currently viewed as favourites to land Tierney, with Howe a big admirer of the Scotland star.

Arteta’s £30million purchase of Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko a year ago greatly impacted Tierney’s first-team possibilities.

The report says that a second spell at Celtic has never been ruled out by Tierney, but this has always been expected to come in his 30s.

Given any encouragement, Rodgers could view a chance to bring back Tierney as being too hard to turn down.
