Kieran Tierney can look to replicate Marcos Alonso's performances against Tottenham

Arsenal will welcome north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates on Sunday with a chance of becoming level on points with their opponents in the Premier League table.

Tottenham started their season brightly with three wins in three games whilst the Gunners saw the opposite with three consecutive defeats.

However, the fortunes have changed for both clubs as Arsenal have won their last two matches with Spurs losing back-to-back Premier League matches 3-0.

The Gunners can replicate how Marcos Alonso tortured Tottenham in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory and in games before that by using Kieran Tierney.

Alonso has a great record against Spurs and has a total of five-goal contributions split as three goals and two assists against the north London club since joining Chelsea, which is remarkable when you take into consideration that he is a defender.

His two goals against Tottenham at Wembley in 2017 is a performance that fans of both clubs never fail to forget.

But even more bizarrely, in the last game between the two London clubs, the Spaniard recorded more touches in the opposition box than Harry Kane.

This is certainly a notion Arsenal need to follow with Kieran Tierney. The Scotsman is constantly bombing up and down the left-hand side with incredible energy.

In Arsenal’s previous game against Burnley, the full-back seemed to be utilised as a winger rather than a defender due to how narrow Bukayo Saka was playing.

Whilst Tierney certainly isn’t in the prolific goal-scoring records like Marcos Alonso, the Arsenal defender is still pivotal to the Gunners’ attack.

The 24-year-old has managed two goals and four assists in a team that has been lacking an attacking threat.

Tierney had 4.7 xA (expected assists) last season and his xA tally is the second-highest in the North London club's squad, which is a huge feat considering he is a left-back.

Mikel Arteta used Tierney as the main source of attack on many occasions last season and this could certainly be the formula that can beat Spurs in the north London derby.
