Kieran Tierney Arsenal snub leaves Tony Adams pressing the panic button as legend baffled by Arteta tweaks

Tony Adams has questioned Mikel Arteta's selection after Arsenal lost to Nottingham Forest gifting Man City their third title in a row.

The Arsenal legend has also called into question the decision to start former Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney on the bench in a game the Gunners needed to win to keep ther league hopes alive. City were crowned champions after Forest beat the North London club 1-0 at the City Ground thanks to a first half strike by Taiwo Awoniyi. City had overhauled Arsenal's eight-point lead as Arteta's side faltered, winning 11 Premier League games in a row including a 4-1 victory over their rivals at the end of April.

Arteta started Jakub Kiwior at left-back and Thomas Partey, normally a centre midfielder, at right-back. Adams believed the Spanish coach needed to play his best players and in their correct positions, and that today's game against Forest was not the right time to be experimenting.

Adams told Sky Sports: "I've been really disappointed. Football is about relationships. Ben White has been great with Saka on the right, all of a sudden he's put Partey in there. Kiwior - we’ve got Tierney on the bench. What is Arteta trying? What is that team selection saying to me? Do we want Partey to play there next season? I don’t get it to be honest.

"They'll expose us and they will do it again, again and again. They will wait for the counter-attack, we played into their hands."
