Kieran Tierney Arsenal return schedule revealed as former Celtic star battles back from shoulder injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed Kieran Tierney is close to making his return from injury.

The former Celtic left-back has been out since December with a shoulder problem, and while he's returned to training he hasn't taken part in any contact sessions.

It appears the Scotland international could be close to coming back though, with Arteta giving an update on his progress.

The Gunners boss said: "He is much closer.

"He is evolving really well, he feels fit and confident.

"He's going to start with contact. Hopefully we can have him soon."

Tierney became the most expensive Scottish footballer in history when he moved to Arsenal for £25million in the summer.

However, the defender has struggled with injury and has made just 11 appearances since his transfer.

Tierney was recovering from hernia surgery when he joined, and dislocated his shoulder in a League Cup game against West Ham United.

He hasn't played for Scotland since the defeat to Israel in October 2018, and it seems unlikely he'll be in Steve Clarke's squad for the play-off against the same opponents at the end of next month.
