Kieran Tierney admits Arsenal deserve boo boy abuse as he insists players are behind under-fire Mikel Arteta

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney says he and his team-mates have "no excuses" as he assures Mikel Arteta has the backing of the squad.

A 1-0 loss at home to Burnley made it three Premier League defeats in a row for the Gunners, who are now closer to 19th place West Brom than they are to Tottenham in 1st.

That's piled the pressure on the manager, but the former Celtic star insists Arteta does not deserve to shoulder the blame.

Tierney said: "We are not showing the manager what we can do and how much we believe in him. Every game there are signs we are doing a bit better but it is still not good enough.

"At half-time we need to be going in the lead but we are not doing that.

"Hard work is the only thing [that can fix this], nothing else for it. There are no excuses.

There is nothing I can say that will make people believe a positive thing is going to come out of this.

"We are lucky we have a great manager. We just need to show better on the pitch."

After an easing of coronavirus restrictions 2,000 Arsenal fans were in the stadium to witness the defeat.

But the hosts left the field to a chorus of boos after the defeat left them in 15th place.

Tierney admitted: "It was deserved. They are coming out here and supporting us."
