Kieran Hayler admits he 'nearly cried' as he got Covid jab with his nan, 87

Katie Price's ex-husband Kieran Hayler revealed he nearly burst into tears after having the Covid jab on Thursday.

The 33-year-old personal trainer got his vaccine on Thursday morning along with his beloved nan Rosita Talbot, 87, as he is the primary carer for her.

Rosita has been living with Kieran's family since the first lockdown came into place in March last year and Kieran has completely devoted himself to caring for her.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Kieran shared his feelings about having the vaccination and why it is so crucial.

He told us: "It's great. When I was told I was able to get it, I almost cried. It's because it's such a turning point to think that life will eventually go back to normal."

He added: "It relieves the pressure slightly of knowing eventually we will be safe."

In an emotional exclusive chat, Kieran explained it was really important for him to get the vaccine as his nan is vulnerable and he wants them both to be safe.

"I'm the primary carer for my nan, so she lives with me," he said. "She's completely bed-bound. Ever since this pandemic started, I've had to be so careful not to let her get the virus, I'm constantly on cleaning patrol. We have other carers that come in to bath her and stuff like that. I'm on it with cleaning, always making sure than I'm extra safe all the time."

The doting dad-of-two continued: "I still have to be safe because of other people, I have to be safe for Michelle [his fiancée] and also our kids, we're still not 100% sure what happens with the kids and the virus and stuff.

"It just takes off that slight edge of pressure and it means that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. We've both had the jab and it means we're going to be safe eventually."

Kieran emphasised the importance of everyone taking precautions to protect the older generation.

The PT said: "I just think that we have to protect - it's not so much my era - I have heard of younger people that are struggling with this virus, and let's not pull the wool over our eyes, it is horrendous for any age, but we have to protect my mum, my nan, people like that. It's the older generation we have to protect.

"By having the vaccine, it just means that, A - we're not going to catch it and B - we're hopefully not going to be spreading it around for them to catch."

He added: "Ideally what we need to do is until this lockdown is finished is to stay home and stay safe, that's all we need to do, and get the vaccine.

"We have vaccines for everything, when we're at school we have these BCG jabs and all that, why not just have a Covid jab? It's no different to anything we've had before.

"That's why I've had it, because I want my life to go back to normal. If having the jab brings me one step closer to having my life back, then do you know what, I'll have it, and I have had it."

Also in the chat, Kieran touched on how the Prime Minister is dealing with the coronavirus pandemic across England.

He said: "Boris [Johnson] is a bit stuck isn't he? This is the first time this has ever happened. Every single thing he is doing is trial and error. He doesn't know the solution and it's really difficult.

"I feel quite sorry for him sometimes because I feel like, you know what, it must be bloody difficult to know exactly what to do to try and put ourselves through this. I take my hat off to him."

Kieran is currently living at home with his fiancée Michelle Penticost and his kids Jett and Bunny - who he shares with ex Katie Price - all while caring for his nan.

Jett and Bunny are unable to go into the separate room their great-nan is staying in to avoid risking contact during Covid.

Detailing the situation, Kieran said: "Jett and Bunny don't go in the room where she is. The room that she's in has glass doors, so they can see her, wave at her and talk to her through the doors, but I don't allow them in the room. It's just because I have to be safe and we have to be careful.

"It's good for her at 87-years-old to spend so much time with her great-grandchildren and her grandchild, me, it's great for her. It gives her something to look at and to stimulate her, like seeing us and seeing the kids playing.

"I'm doing everything that I can to keep her safe. She's probably the safest person, because I know how good I've been, and because Kate [Price] has Harvey, she has to be careful too, so in turn that means Jett and Bunny are safe."

Asked if it's hard for Jett and Bunny to not have contact with their great-nan, he shared: "It's not that it's hard for them, at the moment it's hard for every kid to be home-schooled and to not do the things that they want to do.

"We always take our kids out swimming and down to the trampoline park - things that we used to do on a regular basis and we can't do that now.

"I'm very lucky that Jett and Bunny are very outdoorsy so taking them for a walk is just a normal thing, we would do that anyway. The fact I can do that with them and they think that it's normal and we're just doing it a bit more often, they're quite happy with that."

He continued: "They were very easy to adjust the fact there's a pandemic going on at the moment - you can't go in and see your great-nan, but at least you can talk to her and see her and have a laugh with her."

Kieran talked about the sweet gesture Rosita makes for her great-grandchildren as she is unable to have close contact with them at the moment.

"She always has a box of chocolates on her table next to her bed and she always throws them down for Jett and Bunny - you know those Lindt ones - she gives them to them just for some sort of interaction," he said.

"I'm allowed to go in the room with her because I wear all the protective safety stuff, but Jett and Bunny will sit there and read on the armchair and she'll give them 10 or 20p for reading well, which is nice.

"At least she can still have that with them, even though she's not been able to cuddle them and see them up close, she can still hear them read to her and stuff."

Kieran explained his nan reading has helped ease the load while he's been tackling homeschooling with the kids.

He went on: "It's a great incentive for Jett and Bunny, to get them to read and learn their spellings. We're all struggling with home-schooling, anyone that says it's a breeze is a liar.

"It's not a breeze, it is hard work - I'm trying to work, I'm doing my virtual online fitness classes while looking after my nan. It's not easy, I'm telling you now. But we do it and we're all pulling together as a nation I suppose."

But on a lighter note, Kieran is keeping his nan entertained while she lives with them during the lockdown.

"She's got an iPad and she's learnt how to FaceTime so that's brilliant," the fitness star told us.

"Trying to teach an 80-year-old how to use FaceTime is bloody difficult, I'm not going to lie. They're so set in their ways.

"But you know, she's got that and also we get boxes of DVDs delivered, we've got millions of films - she probably watches about seven or eight films a day. She gets a FaceTime, she sees the kids, it's great.

"I was really worried to start with that she'd be so bored. She may be bored at certain times, but there's a lot going on. We've put bird feeders outside her window, so she sees the birds coming in - things to stimulate her really."

Kieran also discussed the first thing he wants to do with his nan once the lockdown is over.

He said: "It'd be nice for family to come over and see her. They haven't been to see her. She's been able to see my mum because my mum is part of our support bubble as she's her daughter, but other than that she hasn't been able to see anybody else. That's why it would be so nice for her as a lot of people haven't seen her since she's been bed-bound, so it'll be nice for her to see other people and not just the same old faces."
