Kieran Donaghy insists his punditry won’t be blunted by Armagh involvement

Kieran Donaghy insists that his punditry won’t be blunted by his involvement with Armagh.

The former Kerry star was lured onto Orchard boss Kieran McGeeney’s coaching team during the close season but has retained his role with Sky Sports for the forthcoming Championship and was unveiled as part of their punditry team alongside former Donegal boss Jim McGuinness yesterday.

Donaghy said: “I’ll be contributing as I normally do given, I suppose, the people that are watching.

“Jim has been involved in the coaching game a lot longer than me and will be going into the future but, yeah, we give them what we see.

“We’re very tuned into watching the game that we’re at. Obviously being at it live and standing on the Sky podium, you can look out and see what’s going on but there’ll be no not bringing something to the viewer if it’s something we see out on the pitch that’ll enlighten them.”

The commute from Kerry to Armagh is taxing but Donaghy is able to break up the journey through his job with PST Sport, which takes him to Dublin quite often.

Describing the decision to take on the Armagh role as “brave”, he explained: “Obviously I’m not driving up and down from Kerry all the time.

“Thankfully my job and the amount of pitches we’re doing in Dublin and the amount of clients we have in Dublin through gardens and retailers that are selling our grass, etcetera, I’m in Dublin quite a lot so it’s normally the much handier hour and 15 minute trip up and down.

“I’m lucky to have a family member living in Kill, just outside Kildare, so that side of it really isn’t an issue.

“Obviously Sky is at the weekends and all of our games are double headers so that’s not going to be overly an issue either.”
