Kids who survived Ayr house explosion visited by Santa as he spreads festive cheer in Kincaidston

Children who survived a devastating explosion which flattened their Kincaidston home were paid a special visit by Santa this week.

The kids, not pictured and aged 16 and 11, who escaped the blast which ripped through four houses were visited at an address in Ayr as Santa spread festive cheer in the estate rocked by disaster just months ago.

The youngsters, who were discharged from hospital last month along with their mum, are back with her for Christmas after being rescued from the site in Gorse Park on October 18.

On Sunday, Santa pulled up to see them thanks to kind-hearted Kincaidston resident Scott Devin.

Scott then headed back to the Kincaidston estate to spread some festive cheer after a tough period which saw fear spread among residents over the safety of their gas supply.

Big-hearted Scott arrived at the estate in style – motoring through in a brand-new Rolls Royce thanks to a kind donor from Alloway.

And seeing residents from the youngest to the oldest with smiles on their faces left a lump in Santa’s throat.

Scott told Ayrshire Live: “It was emotional, but a really good night, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“Driving up by the blast site on Gorse Park was harrowing but then you were just met with people with smiles on their faces – that’s what it was all about.

“We were out there to spread some festive cheer and we definitely managed that; kids, parents and grandparents were waving from their windows.

“One boy came up and said he just wants everybody to be happy and safe for Christmas, that really got to me.”

Scott said bringing Santa to the family who had lost so much added a special touch to the night.

Scott added: “Of all my time dressing up as Santa it was one of the hardest visits.

“I just told them they were exceptionally brave; they were so excited to see Santa and be part of it. It made it all worth it.”

Scott also visited two young girls with additional support needs in Belmont.

More than 600 gifts were dropped off thanks to generous donations from the local community.

Scott added: “We just want to thank everyone for being part of it and donating gifts – the community has really pulled together after the toughest of years.”
