Kids’ safety worries parents in Madhya Pradesh; Campuses safe, assure schools

BHOPAL: The state government might have announced the decision to open classes from 6 and above, but the parents seem reluctant to send their children to school. Parents of particularly classes 6 to 8 are yet to decide on sending their children to schools.

Parents said that sending children below class 9 is a problem. “I am still not convinced as to how schools will ensure the safety of my daughter. She is in class 6. As she has been at home for over a year, I do not think she is ready to follow the instructions of the teachers,” said Yashwant Kumar, father of a student.

Parents are also fearing that their children are not vaccinated. “My son is 11 years old and he is in class 6. Now, how to send him school when there is no vaccine for him in India yet. I think regular classes for class 6 should have been avoided,” said Om Narayan Pandey, father of another class 6 student.

Schools, however, maintained that the safety of the children will be their priority. “I think schools will be much safer than any other place in the world for the children,” said a school owner without quoting his name.
