About 400 people, including children and their parents, grouped together to form the words "1 Year to Go!" at Tokyo Stadium in Chofu, Tokyo, on Monday.

This Wednesday marks one year before the opening of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The participants live near the stadium, which will be the venue for soccer, rugby and modern pentathlon during the Games.

The words they made stretched 28.5 meters wide and 8.5 meters high. They were joined by Miraitowa, the mascot for the Tokyo Olympic Games, and Someity, the Tokyo Paralympic Games mascot.

A robot version of Miraitowa was unveiled during the event and interacted with children by shaking hands and doing high-fives with them. The robot is under development by the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

"I'm really looking forward to the Games, which is just 12 months away. It's really exciting that people will come from different countries," said one of the participants, an 11-year-old elementary school boy from Musashino, Tokyo.
