Kids having sleepovers linked to Covid cases in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Children having sleepovers has been linked to an increase in Covid cases in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The council has reminded people that under current restrictions most sleepovers are banned.

Case rates in the local authority currently stand at seven per 100,000 people for the seven days up to April 26, which is a slight rise from 6.6 recorded on Friday. See the lates figures for your area here.

It led to the local council putting out a warning on social media saying: "We know kids enjoy sleepovers but Covid-19 spreads quickly indoors.

"Recent cases in RCT are linked to sleepovers so if someone doesn’t live with you or isn’t in your support bubble they shouldn’t be inside your house. Covid-19 cases are currently low in RCT, let’s keep it that way."

Council leader Andrew Morgan added on Sunday: "We have had a small cluster in the last week which are linked to a sleepover party of children. Numbers are small but today for example [there were] new cases reported whereas last week it was one or two and some days zero."

The current restrictions in Wales ban indoor meeting but from Monday extended households will be possible allowing two households to come together to form an exclusive bubble who can meet and have contact indoors. Read about exactly what rules are changing on Monday by going here.

The Welsh Government guidance says: "People can form an extended household with one other household. This means that all the people in the two households join together to become in effect part of a single household. This will allow you to spend time with the people in that household in your home or their home and have physical contact. You can also stay in each other’s homes and in holiday accommodation together."
