A Kerry mum has told how her children are 'devastated' that they have to stay home after another pupil in their school tested positive for Covid-19.
The unnamed mother, who has a son and a daughter in a primary school that was forced to send two classes home, explained how she got a call informing her of the situation on Thursday.
One student in the school is understood to have tested positive for the virus, but they also had a sibling in another class with whom they had been in close contact.
She said: "We got a call at five to nine telling us that there was a child in my son's class that tested positive and that we were to keep him home.
"And I've another child, so I said what about her, she's in a different class, my daughter, and they said 'look just to be safe, keep her off as well.'
"Then about 20 minutes later I got another phone call from another teacher saying that 'we're just updating you' and that the child who tested positive has a sibling in your daughter's class."
She told Radio Kerry News: "The kids were devastated. They were only getting back to seeing their friends and all the excitement and the new pencils and books and all the rest of it."
Meanwhile, a secondary school in the area was also forced to send students home after a positive Covid-19 case was confirmed.
It is understood that this case is also linked to the primary school which closed earlier on Thursday.
Anyone who was "in the bubble" of the student in question was sent home, in line with public health advice.
There is one further suspected case in that school.
