Kids can enjoy a free steam train ride on the East Lancashire Railway

We all know there's no such thing as a free ride - unless you're a child visiting the East Lancashire Railway, that is.

That's because the popular visitor attraction is offering kids the chance to ride for free.

It means that any child between the ages of five and 17 can enjoy the steam train experience without spending a penny.

They just have to be accompanied by a paying adult and must download a voucher from the website here before booking their tickets. Under fives are always free unless there's a special event on.

The voucher can be used between now and Sunday, February 9, except for event days.

East Lancs Railway puts on a number of events throughout the year including the popular Day Out with Thomas, which is back in May, August and October.

Admission prices on the dates you can use the voucher are subject to change but start around £16.50 for an adult. Only one voucher per person and per transaction.

To make a day of it you can also take advantage of free entry to the nearby Bury Transport Museum , which houses old buses, original artifacts and interactive exhibits to help your family explore the lives and jobs of people in the early 20th Century.
