Kids and adults get mucky at the North East Puddle Jumping Championships

Children and adults are having a splashing good time as the North East Puddle Jumping Championships once again come to the region.

The event guarantees fun and laughter whatever the weather as competitors get soaked and knee deep in clarts.

The event is being held at Washington Wetland Centre through the half term school holidays and fun-loving families are arriving in their wellies and water proofs as they prepared to start splodging.

On Saturday visitors of all ages leapt in the puddles to see how high they could make them splash. And our ChronicleLive photographer was there to capture the fun.

And what better way to blow away the winter cobwebs and have a splashing day out together?

The Puddle Jumping Championships are the perfect activity for the whole family and prizes are up for grabs.

The centre is encouraging adults to join children by unleashing their inner child and releasing everyday stress in the event.

And all ages are being challenged to the popular Welly Boot Camp obstacle course, with a most creative puddle jump finale.

WWT Washington centre manager Gill Pipes said: “We know that everyone, whether that be children or adults, love nothing more than to splash in puddles, so we’re giving them the chance to channel their inner splasher with this fun event.

“We also believe that children who love puddles can grow up to be adults that love the outdoors, so through these championships we’re gently nurturing a passion that may help protect wetlands and the wildlife that depend on them for years to come.”

Visitors to WWT Washington will also be able to enjoy a host of other fun activities throughout the day including welly wanging, a welly shy and ceramic welly boot decorating.

The event runs from Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 February with any age welcome to take part. There are varying levels of difficulty throughout the obstacle course, and grown-ups will be needed to help smaller children.
