LUCKNOW: Taking suo motu cognizance of a TOI report about stray dogs mauling a five-year-old boy to death in Thakurganj area of the state capital and critically injuring his sister, a Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court on Thursday issued a notice to the state government, Lucknow municipal commissioner, and the district magistrate seeking their response on the steps being taken to curb the menace.
Fixing April 19 as the next date of hearing, the bench also directed Lucknow CMO to ensure proper medical care to the girl battling for life and asked KGMU vice-chancellor to personally supervise her treatment.
A bench of Justice D K Upadhyay and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi passed the order after asking its registry to register it as a PIL. The bench was deeply concerned over the incident after reading about it in The Times of India and a Hindi daily, which were taken on record by it.
“Nothing can be more pain-giving for a human being than to learn a human life being lost in such a manner. As per the newspaper reports, stray dogs attacked the brother and sister duo and killed the brother separating his sister from him forever, perhaps to meet in only the next birth,” the bench said with deep anguish.
