Kid Cudi has his eye on Kings of Leon and Green Day for the follow-up to his debut album. The mild-mannered rapper revealed that he has already laid down tracks with Snoop Dogg, Clipse and Blink-182's Travis Barker, and plans to release album, entitled Cudder, next summer.
"The album is basically me working with artists that have inspired me, helped me grow and who I've always admired," Cudi told MTV News. As opposed to his high-concept debut, Man On the Moon, Cudder is conceived as a "compilation" of discrete tracks. "I'm really trying to do all the collabs that I couldn't do for the [Man On the Moon] album. We're going to have the Clipse on this compilation, Robin Thicke ... We've got Snoop, Travis Barker – trying to get Green Day onboard, and Kings of Leon, hopefully."
Kid Cudi is no stranger to collaborations. Since signing to Kanye West's GOOD label in 2008, Cudi has already worked with everyone from Jay-Z to the Black Eyed Peas. His first album features cameos not just by West and rapper Common, but by psych rockers MGMT and electronic duo Ratatat.
"On the Ratatat song, you can hear them and you can hear me; we don't compromise each other," Cudi explained. "That's the same thing I want to do with anybody I work with ... I don't want it to be, like, a Green Day song with me rapping over it. What I want to do is, have the triangle effect. Have Green Day involved and have them co-produce with someone like Ratatat or my producers, and then we all create from the ground up. That way, it's like a fusion of each sound and each inspiration."
