Kid Cudi Fires Opening Act M.I.A From His Tour For Her ‘Offensive’ On-Stage Rants

Rapper Kid Cudi has publicly confirmed that he fired fellow artist and support act M.I.A for her “offensive” rants, which copped overwhelming boo’s during her set.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (Aus time), the “Maui Wowie” rapper confirmed that M.I.A will no longer accompany him during his Rebel Ragers Tour.

“M.I.A is no longer on this tour,” his statement began.

The scathing Instagram post comes after the “Paper Planes” songstress was booed during a mid-set speech where she touched on being “cancelled for being a brown Republican voter”, according to a report from Variety.

“I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, cuz [sic] I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood,” Cudi continued in his IG statement.

“After the last couple [of] shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing, and I won’t have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upset my fanbase. Thank you for understanding.”

M.I.A was rostered on as an opener for Kid Cudi alongside other acts including A-Trak, Me N Ü and Dot Da Genius.

Since being fired from the gig, TikToks of M.I.A’s previous rants on the tour where she was booed by the audience went gangbusters online.

In one video, shared on May 6 by Diana (@dianarloz), M.I.A took a moment on stage to talk about her track “ILLYGAL”.

“Alright, I’m illegal. Half of my team are not here because they didn’t get the visa, OK? I want you to know that. So don’t listen to what the bots say on the internet,” the singer can be heard saying.

In another video shared on X on May 4, M.I.A can be heard telling the crowd, “I can’t do ‘ILLYGAL’, but some of you could be in the audience”.

M.I.A responds to being fired from Kid Cudi’s tour

After Cudi shared his statement, M.I.A took to X to respond to the news as well as the viral TikTok where she spoke about that specific track.

“I wrote illygal on the Maya LP a song from 2010. I started this intro to the song with the statement saying I’m illygal, and I said my team hasn’t gotten visas yet. Then played a song that had lyrics saying ‘Fu&% the law’, which I still believe, if the law is unjust f@%& it,” M.I.A wrote in all caps.

“Do not gaslight my words. That is the work of Satan.”

Kid Cudi has not responded to M.I.A’s post. However, videos of M.I.A’s on-stage monologues have gone viral across social media, with many comments expressing their disappointment in the artist.

At the height of Covid-19, M.I.A was embroiled in controversy for linking the 5G data network to the pandemic and her anti-vax views.

In 2022, she spoke up against cancel culture, telling The Guardian, “I think everyone should be having open conversations – we don’t all have to, like, build effigies of people and burn them in the street for saying something, going after them like Guy Fawkes, because of fear of being seen as the other.”
