Kicker Josh Lambo wins AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

A week after Garner Minshew II took home his second Pepsi Rookie of the Week award and Calais Campbell won the Defensive Player of the Week award, Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo will now be getting some hardware of his own. The veteran kicker was named Special Teams Player of the Week Wednesday, giving the Jags their fourth Player of the Week award of 2019.

Lambo played a critical role in the teams’ win this Sunday against the Denver Broncos and fans took notice. He was able to garner a total of 12 points in field goals for the Jags.

Lambo has been the epitome of consistent since arriving at Jacksonville in 2017. He’s made 48-of-51 field goals, good for over 94 percent in his two years with the team and has yet to miss this season with a perfect 10-of-10 ratio. He’s been nothing short of money for Jacksonville and has become a fan favorite since joining the team.

This past Sunday, it was his 4-of-4 performance in the howling winds of the Rockies that earned Lambo the honors of Special Teams Player of the Week. The Jaguars put the game in Lambo’s hands, and he delivered as always. At certain points of the game, the winds were up to 22 miles per hour, which certainly are not favorable kicking conditions.

The Jaguars’ front office and staff undoubtedly believe in Lambo, as they signed him to a four-year extension worth $15.5 million this past offseason. He will earn that and some if he continues to be the league’s best kicker and has more days like this past Sunday.
