Kicker Jason Myers to Seahawks ranks as 9th-biggest player departure

Now that the initial wave of free agent signings and player trades have become official, it’s time to rank the transactions.

Gil Brandt of NFL.com took a look at which big-name departures could hurt teams the most heading into the 2019 season and Earl Thomas jumping ship to the Baltimore Ravens didn’t even make the list.

The Seahawks, however, did become the beneficiary of a move Brandt ranked as the 9th-most impactful departure so far . . . the Jets allowing kicker Jason Myers to walk after just one season.

Released by the Seahawks last year after the decision was made to go forward with veteran kicker Sebastian Janikowski, Myers was immediately snapped up by New York via waivers.

In his short stint with the Jets, Myers broke the franchise record for field goals in a game with seven, was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week and earned himself a spot on the Pro Bowl roster.

Seattle wasn’t about to make the same mistake twice, inking Myers to a four-year deal worth up to $15.45 million.
