Kick-off brought forward for Sunderland's home game against Burton Albion

Sunderland's home game against Burton Albion next month has become the latest game to be switched to a 7pm kick-off, the club has announced.

The Black Cats are scheduled to take on the struggling Brewers at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday, December 1.

The League One fixture was due to kick-off at 7.45pm, but the timing has now been brought forward.

With the Covid-19 pandemic meaning games are being played behind-closed-doors, matches have frequently kicked-off at unusual times this season.

Both of Sunderland's midweek home games in the EFL Trophy, against Aston Villa U21 and Carlisle United, kicked-off at 7pm, as did their latest midweek League One game on Wearside against Crewe Alexandra, and last Tuesday's trip to Rochdale, while tomorrow's game against promotion rivals Ipswich Town will also start at 7pm.

Sunderland's game against Gillingham at Priestfield last Saturday was moved to a 1pm kick-off at the request of the Kent club.

Home teams set the kick-off times at the start of the season, but they can be altered at a later date with the consent of the away team.

Excluding games picked for live TV broadcast, the EFL regulations say that Saturday games must kick-off between 11.30am and 3.15pm, while midweek games must kick-off between 7pm and 8.05pm, and Bank Holiday games must kick-off between 11.30am and 8.05pm.
